Moroccans Lead in French Citizenship Acquisitions, Study Shows

Moroccans are at the top of the list of foreigners naturalized as French in 2018. This is revealed by a study carried out by the Eurostat statistical institute.
There are 110,014 foreign residents in France who obtained French nationality in 2018. With 15,390 naturalizations, Moroccans take first place, ahead of Algeria (14,867) and Tunisia (6,687). According to the Eurostat study, these three Maghreb countries have dominated the ranking.
The study report indicates that African residents (61.8%) have acquired French nationality more than other residents in France. They are followed by foreigners from Europe (20%), Asia (9.2%), North and South America (6.9%) and Oceania (0.1%).
Faithful to its decision, France granted nationality this week to 700 frontline Covid-19 workers. Among them, 29 Moroccan doctors.
