Moroccans Exploit Hotel Booking Loophole to Bypass City Travel Restrictions

Limiting travel to and from the 8 cities is not an easy task. Some Moroccans have resorted to online hotel bookings to obtain the derogatory travel certificate required by the Ministry of the Interior.
According to a joint press release from the Ministries of the Interior and Health, the certificate is only issued for medical needs or professional missions. These measures did not prevent some from derogating from the rule by making sometimes fictitious hotel reservations.
The decision had in fact created a lot of confusion and many merchants and professionals had found themselves blocked tens, if not hundreds, of kilometers from their workplaces. A reservation on Booking or Trivago, among other sites, was thus the miracle solution to present to the Pasha to obtain the famous document.
This is all the more true since no official press release prohibits the use of hotel reservations to benefit from the derogatory travel certificate.
