Casablanca Workers Flee as Morocco Imposes Travel Ban on Major Cities

Household staff and workers in the city of Casablanca have abandoned their workplaces without warning to join their families, following the decision to ban travel to and from several cities in Morocco, forcing their employers to stay home to take care of their children.
Many citizens have revised their travel plans, following the decision to ban travel to and from several cities in the kingdom, announced on Sunday in a joint statement from the Ministries of the Interior and Health.
Among them are several workers and household staff who, in a panic, have abandoned their livelihoods and rushed to bus and train stations to join their families before midnight, reports the daily Assabah.
As a result, many executives, business owners and company managers in Casablanca have found themselves playing babysitters and taking care of household chores, in the absence of their household staff who have deserted the premises without warning.
For masons, grocers or other workers who have also taken flight, there is no question of celebrating Eid al-Adha away from their loved ones.
It should be noted that the travel ban measure has created massive traffic jams at toll booths and on the roads, which could lead to new outbreaks of contamination.
