Moroccans killed by the Algerian army: an investigation is demanded
The Moroccan League for Citizenship and Human Rights is calling for an international investigation after the assassination of Moroccan civilians by the Algerian army. The organization denounces repeated extrajudicial executions aimed at fueling a systematic regional provocation strategy.
The human rights organization urges the United Nations to oversee a transparent investigation into the homicides that occurred near the province of Béchar. On February 28, two Moroccan nationals were shot dead by Algerian forces in the Beni Ounif region, under the pretext of fighting smuggling, even though no imminent threat was established.
This incident follows a similar attack on January 28, where three other Moroccan civilians lost their lives in Ghennama. The League stresses that the recurrent use of live ammunition constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and amounts to intentional murders committed outside the principles of necessity and proportionality.
Based on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the organization insists that lethal force can only be a last resort. It demands that individual and institutional responsibilities be established to guarantee the victims’ families their fundamental right to truth, justice and reparation.
Despite this defensive posture, the multiplication of deadly incidents threatens regional security, prompting the League to call on Morocco to take international legal action.
