Moroccan Wrestlers to Compete in Israeli Tournament Honoring Munich Olympics Victims

The Moroccan wrestling team will take part in the Beer Sheva tournament in Israel, scheduled for August 25 and 26. A participation that materializes the dynamism of sports cooperation between the two countries.
The event is organized on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
During this competition, twelve members of the Israeli Olympic delegation were killed by the Black September group. Mark Slavin and Eliezer Halfen were to compete in wrestling at the games, Moshe Weinberg was a coach and Yossef Gottfreund was a referee.
At the next tournament to be held in the city of Bee Sheva, Morocco will be represented by eight athletes and 10 other members of the delegation, including high-ranking officials from United World Wrestling, the international body governing amateur wrestling, the Israeli organizers said. They added that on this occasion, the Moroccan team and the Israeli Wrestling Federation will also sign a cooperation agreement.
