Moroccan Workers Lead Foreign Contributors to Spanish Social Security Amid Pandemic Decline

The Moroccan community living in Spain tops the ranking of non-EU foreign workers contributing to the Spanish social security system. Moroccans are followed by the Chinese (97,610), according to data published on Thursday by the Ministry of Integration.
In total, 2,044,669 foreigners were affiliated with the Spanish social security system in January 2021, a decrease of 1.6% compared to December 2020, or 33,967 fewer active people, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Of all foreign workers contributing to the Spanish social security system, 1,307,637 are from non-EU countries and 737,032 are from EU countries.
According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), 771,683 Moroccans were legally established in Spain as of July 1, 2020, an increase of 1.4% (+10,968 people) compared to January 1 of the same year.
