Moroccan Women Outraged by Imam’s Sermon Condemning Female Workers and Activists

Wednesday 28 August 2019, by Bladi.net

The sermon of an imam from Oued Laou was strongly criticized by the women of this region. He committed an excess by treating as impious the women who work in the associative and political fields. A investigation has been opened by the local authorities.

The women of the seaside town of Oued Laou, as well as those who spend their holidays there, were scandalized by the content of the Friday, August 23, 2019 sermon in the Ali Omari mosque in Tetouan. Contrary to the wise words of the main imam, they were subjected to a long insulting indictment by his replacement.

The latter attempted in his sermon to make an absurd comparison between the virtuous woman and the impious one. According to his words, the former does not leave her home and does not work outside while the impious and impious women work far from their home and work in the associative and political fields.

Le360.ma reports that this dangerous comparison, which is contrary to the precepts of the Quran, was not to the liking of the inhabitants of the region. Without mincing words, they reminded him that in the time of the Prophet Muhammad, many female personalities were influential in the daily life of society.

Moreover, according to these offended Muslim faithful, some of these personalities distinguished themselves outside their localities, both in commerce and in wars. The opponents of the Imam did not fail to remind him of the example of Lalla Aicha, the wife of the Prophet.

The same source specifies that the local authorities informed of this situation did not take long to react. They immediately opened an investigation to clarify this matter. At the central government level, rigor is the order of the day. Imams who mention political subjects or social demands are often suspended by their supervisory ministry.

The imam of the Echouhada mosque in Rabat learned this the hard way for having considered in his sermon the celebration of the Gregorian New Year as a sin. Another imam from the Tinghir region had been dismissed. He had refused to follow the official text of the Friday sermon.
