Moroccan Woman Severely Burned by Husband After Seeking Divorce in Fez

The incident took place on Saturday, November 9 in a working-class neighborhood in Fez. A cafe waiter, angry at his wife’s incessant divorce demands, poured boiling oil on her entire body while she was sleeping.
The couple had been going through a difficult situation for several months, punctuated by arguments and brief periods of reconciliation. Last Saturday, on the occasion of Eid al-Mawlid, the husband’s attempt at reconciliation was rejected by his wife who refused to turn the page.
Wounded in his ego, the man waited for night to take revenge on his wife while she was sleeping. He boiled cooking oil, before pouring it on her face and upper body.
The victim was rushed to the burns unit of the University Hospital Center in Fez, while the husband was taken into custody and placed at the disposal of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.
