Moroccan Woman Dies in Suspicious Car Plunge off Spanish Coast, Driver Survives

The body of a woman of Moroccan origin was fished out of the sea in Moaña (Pontevedra, Galicia), after a car accident that occurred on Saturday. The driver of the vehicle is said to have deliberately accelerated towards the sea. An investigation has been opened to shed light on this case.
The victim, Fadwa A., 41, was in the car that plunged into the sea around 5 a.m. on Saturday. The driver, A.C.T., 47, a resident of Moaña, survived after taking refuge on the roof of the vehicle. Showing signs of hypothermia, he was taken to the hospital. According to witnesses, the latter "considerably accelerated" before the vehicle plunged into the sea, relays Telecinco.
The Civil Guard has opened an investigation to determine the causes and circumstances of the accident and the death of the victim. At this stage, caution is required. Investigators do not rule out any hypothesis about the death of Fadwa A., whose body bore a mark of blows near the mouth, said Abel Losada, the sub-delegate of the government of the province.
In a statement to the press, he presented his condolences to the victim’s family and friends, "and by extension to all women, because every time a woman dies in terrible circumstances, it hurts us all as a society." Losada specified that the driver of the car has a history of gender-based violence. He had been convicted in 2012 by the Pontevedra court and had a restraining order in effect until 2020.
However, the victim is not registered in the system for the protection of victims of gender-based violence (VioGén), Losada points out. "If the gender-based nature of this death is confirmed, we would break a positive streak of 15 months," lamented the sub-delegate, recalling that the last gender-based crime in the province dates back to June 2023. It was a woman stabbed to death by her ex-husband in Oia, who then committed suicide.
