Moroccan Urban Road Accidents Claim 20 Lives, Injure Over 2,000 in One Week

20 dead and 2,011 injured, including 68 seriously, is the toll of 1,487 accidents that occurred in urban areas during the period of November 16 to 22, according to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The causes of these accidents are known. According to the DGSN, they are caused by driver inattention, failure to yield the right-of-way, speeding, pedestrian inattention, failure to maintain a safe distance, changing direction without signaling, failure to stop, lack of vehicle control, unauthorized lane changes, driving in the wrong direction, driving under the influence, improper overtaking and failure to comply with traffic lights.
Regarding the control and repression of traffic offenses, the security services recorded 42,515 tickets and issued 11,741 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, against the collection of 30,774 transactional fines, the same press release specifies.
In total, 6,398,625 dirhams were collected as part of the municipal impoundment of 4,509 vehicles, the seizure of 7,013 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 219 vehicles.
