Moroccan Union Demands $100 Pay Raise for Public Sector Workers Amid Inflation Concerns

The Union of Moroccan Labor (UMT) union has sent a note to the government demanding, among other things, a raise of 1000 DH on the salaries of civil servants and public sector employees.
In a context marked by high inflation and the deterioration of the purchasing power of Moroccans, the union has called for the minimum wage in the sector to be raised to 4000 DH. This demand is part of 66 points divided into ten axes.
The UMT also demands a reduction in the tax burden on citizens, particularly the abolition of the tax on retirement pensions, as well as the development of adequate housing for civil servants.
Furthermore, the trade union center has also called for the integration of all holders of a baccalaureate+5, such as pharmacists and dental surgeons. This provision provides for a significant increase in salaries ranging from 3,600 to 3,900 DH for this category.
For the record, in 2021, the civil service had 570,769 civil servants, according to official figures.
