Moroccan Truckers Threaten Strike Over Soaring Fuel Costs Despite Government Aid

Faced with the continuous rise in fuel prices at the pump, Moroccan carriers are once again brandishing the threat of a general strike. They believe that the direct aid granted by the government is insufficient, calling for long-term solutions.
More than 3 billion dirhams have already been spent by the government to support the transport sector in the current inflationary context. Despite the increase in the envelope dedicated to them to mitigate the effects of the rise in fuel prices, the carriers still seem dissatisfied and feel threatened, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
In a press release, the professionals called for structural and effective measures. Otherwise, they threaten to lead a general strike that would be detrimental to the national economy. According to the explanations, the situation is only getting worse day by day. This calls, according to them, for the government to activate all possible measures in order to save this strategic sector and revitalize it. And this would involve frank dialogue taking into account the representativeness of the sector.
Among these measures are the revaluation of the amount of the subsidy put in place, or the capping of fuel prices. These two latest proposals would be motivated by the fact that the amounts previously granted were not enough to offset the sharp rise that prices have experienced at service stations.
