Moroccan tourists Spain spending surge 2024

Moroccan tourists are increasingly traveling to Spain. And most importantly, they spend more than the average of foreign visitors.

Moroccan tourists confirm their importance for the Spanish tourism sector. In 2024, Spain welcomed 767,000 visitors from Morocco, an increase of 30.8% in one year, according to the 2025 Turespaña report dedicated to the Moroccan tourism market.

This growth is accompanied by a sharp increase in spending. Moroccan tourists spent 948 million euros in Spain in 2024, 31.5% more than the previous year. The figure also exceeds pre-pandemic levels, with growth of 21.5% compared to 2019.

The most striking figure concerns average daily spending. A Moroccan tourist spends an average of 210 euros per day in Spain. This is more than the average of all international tourists, estimated at 186 euros per day. The report thus highlights the high potential of the Moroccan market for the Spanish tourism economy.

This increase occurs even as the average length of stay has decreased. Moroccan tourists stay an average of 5.8 days in Spain, but there are more of them and they spend more during their stay. The average spending per tourist reaches 1,210 euros.

Accommodation explains part of this trend. Moroccan visitors increasingly use commercial accommodations. In 2024, they represent 86.8% of the Moroccan market to Spain, of which 79.2% for hotels. This choice mechanically contributes to increasing spending on site.

Andalusia remains the top Spanish destination for Moroccan tourists. It welcomed 42.9% of them in 2024, or 329,000 people. Its proximity to Morocco, ferry connections, the Costa del Sol, beaches and shopping opportunities continue to strongly attract this clientele.

Madrid ranks second with 187,000 Moroccan tourists, or 24.3% of the market. The Spanish capital is recording strong growth, with an increase of 54.2% in one year. Catalonia comes third, with 87,000 Moroccan visitors, but declined by 11.1%.

For Spain, the Moroccan market appears to be a strategic segment: geographically close, rapidly growing and more spending-oriented than average. Travel remains primarily motivated by leisure and vacations, but also by shopping, urban stays and beaches.
