Moroccan Tourists Fuel Record-Breaking Tourism Surge in Marbella

Moroccan tourists have stormed the city of Marbella, in southern Spain, contributing to the increase in tourism revenues in this city.
The influx of tourists to Marbella has reached record levels in the first half of 2024, said Ángeles Muñoz, the mayor of Marbella, at a press conference, noting that the city located on the Costa del Sol has attracted more Moroccan and American tourists in the first six months of the year compared to the same period last year.
The arrival of Moroccan tourists in Marbella boosts the city’s economic activity, rejoiced the mayor of the Spanish city, assuring that the latter spend without counting during their holidays. According to her, Moroccan tourists make an average of 600 euros in daily expenses, an amount that can reach 1,000 or 1,500 euros, while a local tourist spends an average of about 200 euros per day.
Moroccan tourists are flocking to Marbella due to the affordable accommodation prices. Muñoz stated that this year, a night costs an average of 174.58 euros compared to 119.21 euros in 2019, the reference year. In Morocco, the rise in prices of tourism services (hotels, cafes, restaurants) this summer has driven away domestic tourists who have chosen to enjoy their holidays on the Costa del Sol.
