Moroccan Taxi Driver’s Murder in Spain Shocks Community, Body to be Repatriated

The Muslim community of Lleida will repatriate the body of Mohamed Ezzeraiga, the 43-year-old Moroccan taxi driver stabbed to death on Sunday, to Morocco in the coming days.
Before the repatriation of Mohamed’s body to Morocco, a Muslim prayer will be organized in his memory in Lleida, sources close to his family told Segre. The Moroccan had been living in the Spanish city for more than twenty years. He leaves behind a widow and two children, one around five years old and a one-month-old baby.
The Muslim community and taxi drivers hope that the police investigations will lead to a quick result and that the alleged perpetrator of this heinous crime will be identified and arrested. For the moment, the Mossos d’Esquadra are still looking for clues to solve this murder. Considering the violence of the crime (the victim was stabbed more than twenty times) and the money found in the taxi, the hypothesis of theft as the motive for the crime seems to be increasingly ruled out.

The investigators continue to view the surveillance camera images to verify the taxi’s itinerary until its arrival in Sifó street, in order to determine if the last customer who got into the taxi is the alleged murderer. They also analyzed the victim’s mobile phone and questioned his relatives to find out if he had any disputes with anyone or if they had noticed a change in his behavior.
The Moroccan was last seen at the Blondel station, around two o’clock on Sunday morning. His body was found a few minutes later on the public road by a passer-by who alerted the police. When they arrived on the scene, the agents found the taxi engine running, the driver’s door open, the meter still on and a sum of money.
