Moroccan Student Acquitted After Fatal Self-Defense Against Attempted Rape

While a concierge attempted to rape her in a furnished apartment in Témara, a young woman found herself in prison. Prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter, the Criminal Chamber near the Court of First Instance of Rabat acquitted her after eight months of pre-trial detention.
It all started with the search for a rental apartment in Témara. This search was the subject of a discussion between a 19-year-old student and a concierge who offered to show her a rental property on the top floor of the building where he worked, reports Assabah. A visit that the young woman agreed to make.
During this visit, the concierge locked the door behind them after they entered the apartment. He tried to rape the young woman, who pushed him away. The aggressor suffocates and falls to the ground. The victim screamed for help, and the neighbors headed towards the apartment. Shortly afterwards, the police arrived on the scene and arrested the victim.
During her interrogation, she pleaded self-defense. This statement did little to convince the investigators. She was placed in pre-trial detention at the El Arjate prison after appearing before the investigating judge. The continuation of the investigation exonerated the accused. The young student is now free.
