Moroccan Striker Munir El Haddadi Aims for Comeback with Las Palmas, Targets Double-Digit Goals

Munir El Haddadi acknowledged on Tuesday, during his official presentation at UD Las Palmas, his new club, that he was convinced by his coach Xavier García Pimienta, under whose orders he was at FC Barcelona. The Moroccan striker hopes to score a dozen goals this season.

Munir El Haddadi admitted that the Catalan coach convinced him to join the Las Palmas club, aware that he "will adapt very quickly". The coach wants to see him play up front and not on the wing, an experience that did not work out for him in previous teams. "From what I’ve seen, we have a good team and we’re going to have a great season. I hope to score twelve or thirteen goals," he told EFE.

The Moroccan international has signed for one season. His contract expires on June 30, 2024. "We’ll see after if they let me continue here or not, I hope to have a good season to deserve the renewal," he added. At UD Las Palmas, Munir will reunite with Spanish striker Sandro Ramírez, a former La Masía player with whom he has "a very good relationship". "I hope this can also be felt on the pitch".

The Moroccan striker will wear the number 17 with the initial of his first and last name, "M. El Haddadi". He hopes to have more chances in this club and regain his great form in order to make a name for himself again in Spanish football and participate in the next Africa Cup of Nations with the Moroccan national team. "I’ve always given my all in the clubs I’ve been to, and I hope to do the same here too," he added.

Munir was behind the last relegation of UD Las Palmas to the second division, in 2018. He scored the first two goals for Deportivo Alavés against his new club, giving the victory to the Vitoria team at the Gran Canaria stadium (0-4).
