Moroccan Star Benatia Faces Backlash Over Qatar Match Criticism
Moroccan international Mehdi Benatia’s denunciations of the refereeing of the Al-Rayyan vs Al Shahaniya match could cost him dearly.
On his Facebook page, the Al Duhail defender posted a video. In a comment, he invited his followers to follow the part of the game he is incriminating: "For those interested in Football in Qatar, I invite you to go see what happened. Something incredible and strange I would even say... Go see the goals, go see what happened, I won’t say more so that I stay within my rights anyway."
This post elicited a reaction from the Emir of Qatar, who is said to be furious with the Moroccan. Consequently, the Qatari Federation summoned the Moroccan player to hear his version.
This reaction is likely to cost the former captain of the Atlas Lions a heavy sanction, even if his accusations are partly justified.
