Moroccan Star Amallah Reveals Mistreatment at Standard Liège After Transfer Refusal
Monday 6 February 2023, by
A few days after his transfer to Real Valladolid, Moroccan international Selim Amallah gave an interview to Eleven Sport. An interview during which the Moroccan player let himself go to some confidences about the treatment he suffered with Standard in recent months.
Selim Amallah had a privileged relationship with the management of the Liège club until the day he declared that he did not want to extend his contract and that he wanted to experience another championship. He was sent to the sidelines and was no longer worthy of training with the rest of the group. His situation was at the heart of the #FreeAmallah campaign that Moroccan supporters posted with each Standard message. Fortunately, the player found another club and since January 31, he has joined Real Valladolid, reports Sudinfo.
"La Liga is the best championship in the world in my eyes. How to refuse the offer to join this competition?" Even if Real Valladolid is playing not to be relegated, Selim Amallah thinks that a beautiful career awaits him in Spain. He admitted that his stay in Belgium was not up to his expectations. "My first season was exceptional and it was unfortunately interrupted by Covid. I really enjoyed that season. But when I think about it, I have more bad memories than good ones at Standard. And the former management is also partly responsible if it ended badly."
The Atlas Lion lived his eviction badly and even if he is now in another club, he has still not recovered from this difficult period that he was not prepared to face. "A lot was said after this sidelining, but I refrained from responding unnecessarily because I was well educated," he continues. "I remained calm and it amused me a lot to hear and read the nonsense. They continued to criticize me for things that were not correct."
Presented by Standard as a player who broke a previously signed agreement, Selim Amallah disagrees. "I never gave my word for an extension. If you are offered something and it doesn’t suit you, why should you sign? I said I was open to proposals but that I wanted to leave. Was there a misunderstanding at that time? In any case, I preferred not to sign," he said.
When asked if he had a message for the Rouches supporters, the player answered in the negative, specifying that many had attacked him without really knowing the background of the story. "I was their scapegoat when I was never disrespectful, it’s not in my nature to be a troublemaker in a group," he said.
