Moroccan Singer’s Trial Delayed as Courts Suspend Hearings Amid Coronavirus Crisis

The suspension of hearings in the courts since Monday, March 16 due to the coronavirus crisis, complicates things for Ibitissam Batma, who sees her detention extended until the health situation improves. A few days ago, the singer’s sister, Dounia Batma, was arrested on the orders of the investigating judge who decided to prosecute her in custody as part of the "Hamza mon bb" case.
The trial hearing for Ibitissam Batma has been postponed, in compliance with the measures taken to fight against coronavirus, including the suspension of hearings in the courts.
Ibtissam and her sister Batma are being prosecuted, as part of the Hamza mon bb case, for fraudulent access to the computer data system, dissemination of false facts for the sole purpose of harming the privacy of individuals, defamation, dissemination of statements and photos, and blackmail.
The case broke out in 2016 and involves several people, some of whom have already been sentenced to prison, and others are awaiting trial. The Batma sisters, from the outset, have been named as being behind these various accounts; but they have always categorically denied their involvement in this criminal network.
