Moroccan Singer Saad Lamjarred Faces 7-Year Sentence in Paris Rape Trial

The public prosecutor has requested a 7-year prison sentence against Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred, whose trial for a 2016 rape case began on Monday at the Paris Assize Court.
Saad Lamjarred is accused of having raped and beaten Laura Prioul, who was 20 years old at the time of the events. In his closing arguments, the public prosecutor stated that the Moroccan singer should be punished for these acts. "Mr. Lamjarred is guilty of rape," said Jean-Christophe Muller, before the Paris Assize Court.
The magistrate requested a prison sentence of seven years as well as a five-year ban from French territory against Saad Lamjarred. During the trial, Laura Prioul maintained her version of the facts, accusing the singer of having raped and beaten her. Saad Lamjarred, on the other hand, claimed to have "never, never, never" committed anything other than blows, in response to the plaintiff’s scratches.
Despite the accusations against him, Saad Lamjarred was able to count on the support of his fans, his lawyers and his wife, Ghita El Allaki, who testified in his favor. She stated that her husband is innocent, stressing that the man she knows is not capable of committing such a serious act.
