Moroccan Pop Star Saad Lamjarred Sentenced to 6 Years for Rape in Paris Trial

The verdict is in for Saad Lamjarred, the Moroccan pop star accused of rape and aggravated assault. The singer, who has been on trial since February 20 before the assize court in Paris, was sentenced to six years in prison, with immediate detention, this Friday, February 24.
When the judge announced the verdict, Saad Lamjarred kept an impassive face and his hands still on his thighs, while the plaintiff, Laura Prioul, huddled against her mother, reports Atlasinfos. The singer has always denied the accusations against him, claiming he did not rape the young woman in a hotel room in Paris in 2016.
However, the judge recalled the proven facts of the case, including the violence inflicted on Laura Prioul, her state of intoxication and her drug use, before asking the police to escort the Moroccan singer during the deliberations.
During the five days of his trial, Saad Lamjarred was supported by his wife Ghita El Allaki. The singer’s lawyers, Jean-Marc Fedida and Thierry Herzog, tried to call into question the plaintiff’s behavior.
