Moroccan Singer Saad Lamjarred to Appeal 6-Year Rape Sentence in Paris

Sentenced to six years in prison for aggravated rape by the Paris Assize Court on February 24, 2023, Moroccan star Saad Lamjarred intends to appeal.
The Paris Assize Court sentenced the famous Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred to six years in prison on February 24. The justice system found him guilty of having raped and assaulted Laura Prioul in a hotel room in the capital in October 2016. Dissatisfied with this judgment, the artist has decided to appeal, reports Le360 citing a source close to the case.
The facts that are being charged to the artist date back to October 2016. Laura Prioul, the alleged victim who was 20 years old at the time, says she was sexually assaulted by Saad Lamjarred after an evening filled with alcohol and cocaine. Some hotel employees told investigators that they had helped "a young woman with a torn shirt in tears, terrified, and stopped the presumably drunk man who was chasing her."
As for the singer, he maintains that he had defended himself against Laura Prioul who had become violent while they were having a good time. He says he chased her to "avoid the scandal," but firmly denies any sexual penetration.
