Moroccan Singer’s Mother Arrested for Assaulting Lawyer in Marrakech Court

The mother of singer and dancer Cheikha Trax was arrested on Tuesday, after assaulting a lawyer the day before at the family court in Marrakech.
Attending the hearing to examine the child custody rights, the defendant insulted and assaulted the lawyer who was not a party to this trial, reports the daily Assabah, specifying that "the lawyer in question was surprised by the woman who insulted him before slapping him violently, breaking his glasses".
The assaulted lawyer filed a complaint with the prosecutor of the king near the court of first instance of Marrakech who ordered the opening of an investigation. This is how "witnesses, including a doctor, present at the hearing, confirmed the facts", leading the prosecutor of the king to decide to detain the accused, the same source points out.
This case provoked the reaction of the Bar Association of Marrakech and aroused the anger of the lawyers present who demand a rigorous application of the law in order to put an end to these unacceptable acts of violence in the courts.
Cheikha Trax is trying to obtain "extenuating circumstances" for her mother. But none of the steps have been successful given the seriousness of the facts, it is pointed out. The defendant will remain in prison until her trial.
