Moroccan Singer Latifa Raafat Appears in Court, Unrelated to Ex-Husband’s Drug Case

The singer Latifa Raâfat, the ex-wife of the Malian Ahmed Benbrahim, the main accused in the "Desert Escobar" case, appeared before the investigating judge of the Casablanca Court of Appeal, but in the context of a completely different case.
Latifa Raafat was not questioned by the investigating judge of the Casablanca Court of Appeal in the "Desert Escobar" case, in which her ex-husband, the Malian Ahmed Benbrahim, is the main accused. Her appearance is the result of a complaint she filed with the public prosecutor’s office against a YouTuber residing in Italy. Arrested by the Italian police, he is accused of regularly publishing offensive content towards Morocco, inventing events and facts, disseminating fake news, rumors and lies, in addition to defamation and blackmail.

The singer published a video of her lawyer explaining that his client is a civil plaintiff and not an accused. According to the lawyer, Latifa Raâfat’s appearance before the investigating judge aims to constitute herself as a civil party. He also stressed that this case has no connection with the drug baron case known as the "Desert Escobar," in which his client had testified. "The investigation with the artist is taking place because she was a witness in the (Desert Escobar) file and was subsequently the victim of a fierce attack orchestrated by several parties and a network specialized in blackmail and threats led by the mastermind of the operation," added her lawyer.
In a post published on her Instagram account, the interpreter of Al Kamar commented on the case in these terms: "Thank God for the blessing of security in our country."
