Key Witness Exonerates Moroccan Singer in 'Desert Escobar' Drug Trafficking Case

The maid of the Malian international drug trafficker Hadj Ahmed Ben Brahim, nicknamed "Escobar of the Sahara", exonerated Moroccan singer Latifa Raâfat before the investigating judge of the Casablanca Court of Appeal. The hearing of the accused will continue next week, pending the trial of Saïd Naciri and Abdenbi Bioui on drug trafficking operations.

Is Latifa Raâfat cleared of all suspicion? On Wednesday, the investigating judge of the Casablanca Court of Appeal heard the maid of the international drug trafficker Ahmed Ben Brahim, Latifa Raâfat’s ex-husband, reports Hespress. During her hearing, she exonerated the Moroccan singer from her involvement in the "Desert Escobar" case, named after the Malian who was initially detained in the El Jadida prison and then transferred to the local prison of Ain Sebaâ. Back from Spain, the one who worked for the drug trafficker, before moving with him to Latifa Raâfat’s home after their marriage, confirmed that the singer was unaware of her ex-husband’s activities or his relationship with the other main accused.

Heard by the investigating judge, Saïd Naciri, president of the Wydad Casablanca football club, who is also a member of parliament for the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), went back on some of his statements made before the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ). During his hearing, the elected official, who would show signs of fatigue, stated that Latifa Raâfat was unaware of her husband’s relationship or their meetings. The drug trafficker’s personal driver was also questioned as a witness in the case. Like the maid and Saïd Naciri, he exonerated the ex-wife of Hadj Ahmed Ben Brahim.
