Moroccan Seasonal Worker’s Body Returned Home After Fatal Spanish Bus Crash

The body of Zahra, a 40-year-old seasonal worker who tragically died in the bus accident near Almonte (Huelva), has been repatriated to Morocco.
The Moroccan consulate in Seville confirmed the repatriation of Zahra to Morocco and her transfer to the city where she lived, located southwest of Marrakech. Zahra’s family and the relatives of the hospitalized seasonal workers did not make the trip to Spain, as had been announced.
The majority of the seasonal workers, in convalescence, left the hospital this week and are recovering from their injuries in their accommodation in San Juan del Puerto (Huelva), where they reside during the strawberry picking season. Only three of them are still hospitalized in establishments in the region, one of whom is still in critical condition. The others are seriously injured, but their condition is stable, according to the health authorities.
The Civil Guard’s investigation into the precise circumstances of the accident is ongoing. Witnesses report that the region was shrouded in thick fog at the time of the incident, an element that could partly explain the tragedy.
