Moroccan Runner Soukaina Atanane Clinches Victory in Barcelona Half-Marathon

The Moroccan-born athlete, Soukaina Atanane, won the 22nd edition of the Terrassa (Barcelona) half-marathon on Sunday, with a record of 1h:14mn:20sec.
The 27-year-old Moroccan dominated the race from start to finish, winning with a time of 1h:14:20. Unfortunately, this performance is not enough to beat the record held since 2019 by the Pole Karolina Nadolska (1h:13:30), reports El Diario Alerta. Another Moroccan, Houda Ahettion, finished third in the race with 1h:20:46, ahead of the Spaniard Maria Ruiz, with 1h:23:17.

Among the men, Dani Mateo, 32, holder of the Spanish record in the 15,000m on track (43:36.9) and the 20,000m (58:17.3), won with a time of 1h03:40, ahead of the Moroccan Jouad El Bissis, 38, who crossed the finish line with a time of 1h:04:21. The Spanish athlete also failed to beat the course record held since 2016 by Carles Castillejo with 1h:03:30. The Spanish of Moroccan origin, Bilal Zladi, finished third with 1h06:50, ahead of the Latvian Dimitrijs Serjogins (1h:06:57).
In the traditional Santi Centelles 5-kilometer race, the Spanish-Moroccan paralympian Yassine Ouhdadi, 27, T3 category (visual impairment) 5,000m champion at Tokyo 2020, and world vice-champion at the 2019 World Championships, beat his own record with a time of 13:58 against 14:35 in 2021.
