Moroccan Rights Group Alerts Authorities to Alleged Rape of Teen with Down Syndrome

In Ait Aourit, 40 kilometers from Marrakech, a teenager with Down’s syndrome is the victim of sexual exploitation. The case is worrying the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) which has seized the public prosecutor.
The Marrakech section of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH), in a letter dated Monday, June 29, seized the public prosecutor regarding a 17-year-old teenager with Down’s syndrome who is being sexually exploited, reports Telquel. He would have been the victim of several rapes committed by two men, aged 20 and 40 respectively.
According to Omar Arbib, a member of the local AMDH branch, the 40-year-old rapist was caught in the act by the victim’s older brother and was subsequently brought before the investigating judge.
In its letter, the association describes the facts as serious enough and asks the prosecutor to take full account of the victim’s incapacity or disability, suffering from Down’s syndrome, and therefore vulnerable to his attackers.
Omar Arbib also points out that cases of sexual violence have increased during the confinement period. In total, 12 cases related to pedocriminal cases were received by the AMDH Marrakech during the period, which were regularly transmitted to the public prosecutor’s office in charge of violence against minors, specifies the association activist.
