Moroccan Rapper El Grande Toto Faces Backlash for Confrontation with Journalists

The National Union of the Moroccan Press (SNPM) condemned the treatment reserved for Moroccan journalists by the rapper El grande Toto on the occasion of the coverage of his hearing, on Wednesday, November 16, at the Casablanca court.
A group of journalists from 6 media outlets filed a complaint in which they reported verbal violence and threats against them by the rapper in order to prevent them from covering his appearance before the public prosecutor’s office.
In a statement, the union condemned these "repetitive" behaviors, stressing that the artist has the right to refuse statements to the press, but this does not authorize him to attack journalists or hold them responsible for his legal troubles.
"The SNPM, while expressing its respect for the right to a fair trial and the principle of the presumption of innocence, nevertheless considers that it is the duty of journalists to cover any event followed by public opinion, and that professional photojournalists are an integral part of the journalistic body," the note states, adding that "the union does not accept any insult or aggression against them by the defendant."
In conclusion, the union expressed its solidarity with the journalists and said it was ready to support them in their efforts to rehabilitate their rights.
