Moroccan Rapper Arrested Over Controversial Song, Sparking Free Speech Debate

The public prosecutor’s office of the court of first instance in Fez has decided to prosecute the rapper Zoma Max, author of the song "3amou.. 3amou rak wledti zine", considered vulgar and indecent, in a state of arrest.
The rapper, originally from Jnan El Ouard, one of the popular neighborhoods of the city, was arrested by the judicial police elements after the publication of the song on his YouTube channel. Questioned about the motives of his act, the young man said he was only seeking fame and buzz by disseminating this song described as "vulgar" by many observers.
Unlike the dozens of serious "tracks" he produced and which did not arouse much interest from his subscribers, this "futile" song has enjoyed some success on social networks, confessed the artist who becomes the fourth rapper arrested for controversial productions, after the authors of the song "tkabbi Atay", accused of incitement to debauchery and rape of minors, and the one of the song "Char zidi kbi Hawaï", accused of offense to the royal family and the institutions of the kingdom.
The authors of the song "tkabbi Atay" have already been sentenced in the first instance to two years in prison each and a fine of 500 dirhams. They have announced an appeal against the decision.
