Moroccan Prison Refutes Claims of Denying Journalist Contact with Family

The Administration of the Local Prison of Ain Sebaa 1 reacted to the statements of the wife of journalist Souleimane Raissouni. She had claimed on social networks that the penitentiary institution had not allowed the journalist to contact his family.
In a clarification, the prison administration indicated that contrary to these allegations published, it is the detainee who refused on two occasions, on May 14 and 15, to call his family, although he has access to the fixed telephone of the establishment.
Regarding the statements that his wife would have been deprived of sending him food supplies as part of the exceptional authorization to enter meal baskets on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr, the administration specifies that she presented herself outside the date set for the delivery of the basket. Letting her pass could set a precedent since the regulations in force on the occasion of this religious celebration were very clear.
The administration of the local prison of Ain Sebaa stressed that the detainee’s wife and some members of his family deliberately disseminate false statements on social networks in order to mislead and attract attention.
