Moroccan Port Tanger-Med Ranks 6th Globally in World Bank Performance Index

The performance of the Tanger-Med port allows it to climb to 6th place out of 370 ports listed worldwide, according to the World Bank’s container port performance index.
Tanger-Med is catching up with the ports of the Middle East that occupy four of the top five places in the second edition of the Global Container Port Performance Index (CPPI). This index developed by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence, allows to compare the performance of port infrastructures worldwide.
It is a new consecration for Tanger-Med which has been collecting the best rankings in Africa, regionally and internationally in recent years. By occupying the sixth place in the ranking, the Tanger-Med port outperforms all the ports of Africa and Europe. The Saudi port of King Abdullah is at the top of the 2021 ranking. It is followed by the port of Salalah in Oman, the Hamad port in Qatar and the Khalifa port in Abu Dhabi.
According to the World Bank, several criteria come into play when it comes to developing the container port performance index, including the total number of hours a ship spends in port, that is, the time elapsed between its arrival in the roadstead and its departure from the berth.
