Moroccan Politician’s Son Jailed for Insulting Officer, DUI

The president of the commune of Brarha and eldest son of the former mayor of Fez, Naoufal Chabat, has been placed in pre-trial detention for insulting a public official and driving under the influence.
Naoufal Chabat, the eldest son of the former Secretary General of the Istiqlal Party (PI) and current president of the commune of Brarha in the province of Taza, was placed in pre-trial detention on Wednesday at the local Bourkaiz prison, by the public prosecutor at the court of first instance of Fez, several media report.

Arrested on Monday after an incident with a traffic police officer, he is accused of "having insulted a public official in the performance of his duties, public drunkenness and driving under the influence".
Naoufal Chabat had been acquitted in 2019 by the Rabat Court of Cassation of the charge of "electoral fraud", after being sentenced at first instance to eight months in prison with a suspended sentence.
