Moroccan Police Uncover Major Olive Oil Adulteration Scheme in Taounate
The Kariat Ba Mohamed police, in the province of Taounate, seized a cargo vehicle loaded with a large quantity of adulterated olive oil and arrested a suspect.
It all started with a routine check at the entrance to Kariat Ba Mohamed. The police officers decided to check the origin of the oils transported in the vehicle. They discovered that it was adulterated olive oil.
The preliminary investigation also reveals that the seized oils were actually residues of olive oil used for industrial purposes, mixed with vegetable oils. A sample will then be sent to the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) to carry out the necessary analyzes to verify their origin.
The 30-year-old driver of the vehicle, from the commune of Sidi El Abed, was arrested. Pending the resolution of this case, he was placed in custody under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office of the court of first instance of Taounate.
