Moroccan Police Bust Online Sextortion Ring in Tangier

Two brothers and a woman, specialized in blackmail and fraud on the internet, were arrested by the judicial police of Tangier. Through a well-designed strategy, they have managed to make many victims on the internet.
These three scammers had long been active in the city of Oued Zem. These individuals targeted their victims on social networks, through fake accounts, by posing as Moroccan girls.
Their strategy consisted in lying to their victims on social networks in order to succeed in filming them in compromising positions. Once this step was completed, they could start blackmailing them by threatening to release the video. Many people fell into this carefully orchestrated trap set by this trio.
Referred on Monday to the general prosecutor’s office in Tangier, their case was entrusted to the investigating judge at the Court of Appeal of the same city, for further investigation. He decided to prosecute the two brothers, aged 24 and 28, in detention, while their accomplice was released on bail. The search of their home led to the seizure of three computers, USB keys, money transfer receipts and a car.
This criminal gang had been active in the city of Oued Zem since 2014 and had time to make quite a few victims. The investigation continues under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office in order to clarify this case and definitively incapacitate all the people involved.
