Moroccan Scammers Jailed for Online Sextortion Targeting Expats

Two individuals who excelled in fraud, scams and sexual blackmail on social networks have been sentenced to one year in prison. The court of first instance of El Jadida has thus put an end to the suffering of dozens of victims.
These two young people whose scammer career ends behind bars had managed to make many victims, most of whom are Moroccans living abroad (MREs). Their modus operandi was to film their prey in indecent and compromising positions via the webcam and through video calls, and then blackmail them. It was following numerous complaints that the police finally got their hands on them, reports Al Massae.
From the many complaints filed, it emerges that the main accused was posing as a girl via a fake account. The victims thought they were dealing with a woman and let themselves go to a certain freedom. It was after getting the desired images that he revealed himself, threatening to spread the obscene videos on social networks if he did not get his way. The victims had only one choice: to pay.
According to the investigations carried out by the judicial police, the main accused has been indulging in this "business" since 2014 and has been able to carry out more than fifty blackmail operations. His accomplice is around thirty operations of the same kind. During the trial, the main accused flatly denied the facts they are accused of. It is the accomplice who confessed in the smallest details how the two proceeded to extort money from their victims. He said that his role was limited to withdrawing the money from the transfer agencies, and that the mastermind of the gang was none other than his friend, the same source specifies.
