Moroccan Police Bust Network Selling Fake Optician Diplomas in Casablanca

Eight fake opticians were arrested in Casablanca during an operation led by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) that led to the dismantling of a network of forged optician diplomas.

The proliferation of fake opticians in the different regions of the country, without respect for the texts regulating the profession of optician-eyewear retailer, has prompted professionals in the sector to seize the competent authorities, who quickly opened an investigation.

The initial investigations conducted by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) led to the arrest of eight opticians who had been practicing for many years with fake diplomas. They did not hesitate to put the investigators on the trail of the school that had issued the fake diplomas that served as the basis for opening the optical and eyewear stores.

According to the newspaper Assabah, this school has no legal basis, let alone an accreditation issued by the supervisory ministry. It does not even have qualified personnel capable of training opticians. The investigations revealed that in some cases, the diplomas are issued in less than two weeks, in exchange for a sum of 1,000 dirhams (less than 100 euros).

Given the number of untrained opticians, the investigation opened continues to put an end to this scourge that endangers the health of citizens. The authorities are determined to shed light on this file. This is why all the schools involved in the issuance of certificates and licenses will be thoroughly investigated.
