Casablanca Police Officers Sentenced to 4 Years for Assaulting Cafe Worker

The Casablanca court sentenced several police officers involved in an assault on a cafe employee to four years in prison with a fine of 5,000 dirhams. The incident occurred last summer.
The victim had posted a video on social media in which she claimed to have been assaulted during her arrest by a police officer in Casablanca. The reaction of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) was quick, Assabah specifies, stating that several people involved were arrested and an investigation was opened by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ).
Nearly a year later, the Criminal Chamber of the Casablanca Court of Appeal rendered its verdict. The main accused, a police commissioner, head of a district, and two other inspectors were sentenced to four years in prison with a fine of 5,000 dirhams.
Two nurses were also convicted in this case, to three years in prison and a fine of 2,000 dirhams, the newspaper adds, stating that five other defendants were sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of 1,000 dirhams. They were prosecuted for abuse of trust, violence, participation in acts of forgery, incitement to false testimony, forgery and use of forgeries.
