Moroccan Opposition Calls for MPs to Donate Allowances to COVID-19 Fund
The Istiqlal party has asked the Speaker of the Assembly to cancel the transport and accommodation allowances of parliamentarians and pay them as support to the Special Fund to Fight Coronavirus.
[Noureddine Mediane], president of the Istiqlal party (PI) parliamentary group, a conservative and opposition member, has appealed to the Speaker of the Assembly, [Habib El Malki], to request the cancellation of the benefits on transportation, the sums dedicated to diplomacy and the accommodation of parliamentarians. In his request, the MP insisted on the transfer of these sums to the fund for managing the consequences of the coronavirus.
The objective of this request is to mark the solidarity of parliament on the health crisis shaking the kingdom, reports Barlamane. An initiative that is very much appreciated, especially because of the economic consequences of the pandemic on the kingdom.
The Moroccan authorities have launched a special fund of more than 30 billion dirhams to support the fight against covid-19. This is the Special Fund that the parliamentarians will support by sacrificing their benefits.
The Special Fund will make it possible to support, from April 6, companies, individuals, self-employed and employees; in particular with the postponement of the payment of all tax and social security contributions due by companies and the payment of direct assistance to workers in precarious situations.
