Moroccan Officials and Football Club President Implicated in Major Drug Trafficking Case

Several well-known personalities in Morocco were presented today before the prosecutor in the context of links with a major drug trafficker. Among these individuals, a football club president.
Saïd Naciri, the president of the Wydad club, as well as Abdenbi Bioui, president of the Oriental region, and 16 other individuals were summoned this Thursday to the Court of Appeal of Casablanca. This summons follows allegations involving around 25 people, including seven who are already in detention, in a case related to a famous drug trafficker, known as the "Escobar of the desert".
The case originated from accusations made by the drug baron, who claims that influential personalities would have benefited from his generosity. Naciri and Bioui, both at liberty, are among the personalities summoned.
The file was revealed by Jeune Afrique, which detailed the alleged implications and connections of political figures with the incarcerated baron since 2019. These revelations led the prosecution to order an in-depth investigation, entrusted to the National Brigade of the Judicial Police, to unravel this complex network and its ramifications.
