Moroccan Official’s Daughter Holds Controversial Funeral for Pet Cat

A rather strange ceremony in Salé. The daughter of the deputy mayor of the city organized a funeral reception at her home to say goodbye to her cat, reports the daily Al Akhbar. A religious ceremony was also celebrated, in the presence of several fqihs. On the menu, recited Quranic verses and duaas for the animal.

While they went to the deputy mayor’s home to present their condolences, the neighbors were surprised to find that the family had not lost a loved one but an animal. Shocked, they immediately left the residence, leaving the cat’s deceased owner, her mother, the deputy mayor of the city of Salé, a few family members and the fqihs, alone, to attend the dinner organized on this occasion.
