The former mayor of Nador falls for corruption

The former deputy-mayor of Nador, Soulimane Houliche (PAM), was sentenced to three years in prison by the Criminal Chamber at the Court of Appeal of Fez, in charge of financial crimes.
Two vice-presidents of the municipality, one from the PJD and the other from the PAM, were also sentenced to prison terms for their involvement in financial malpractices, embezzlement, corruption, breach of trust and forgery and use of forgery, reported Al Akhbar.
Mr. Houliche, who had been in pre-trial detention since 2019, has already served his sentence and has been released. However, the court rejected his request for the restitution of his passport.
The third deputy mayor of the municipality, Allal Faris (PJD), and the fourth deputy mayor, Houcine Ouhali (PAM), were each sentenced to one year in prison. A municipal employee was acquitted.
The case was triggered by reports from the general inspection of territorial administration, which revealed serious dysfunctions in the management of the municipality of Nador, including the granting of building permits without the approval of the competent authorities and the construction of buildings on land from illegal subdivision.
