Moroccan Official Calls for Spain to Shift Stance on Western Sahara Dispute

The president of the Moroccan Sahara commission within the Party of Justice and Development (PJD), Mustapha El Khalfi, remains very critical of Spain, which would be playing a vague game on the Sahara issue. He declared during a study day on the migration crisis that the strengthened Moroccan diplomacy, supported by the support of the United States, can lead to a turnaround of the situation of the cities of Sebta and Melilla.
This study day on the migration crisis initiated by the PJD allowed the former minister to once again disapprove of the attitude of the Spanish authorities who would be playing a dangerous game on the Polisario issue, denouncing the support of several politicians to the separatist groups.
Spain must put aside the speeches of hatred and incitement to hostility coming from certain people framed and directed by the far right and promoting a hostile vision against Morocco.
During these proceedings, Mustapha El Khalfi recalled that Sebta and Melilla are historically and sociologically Moroccan, evoking the issue of retrocession. A retrocession certainly under conditions but which could be carried out to its conclusion because of the new changes recorded in the kingdom.
"Spain is aware that Morocco is undergoing major changes that give it the right to demand the retrocession of Sebta and Melilla," he said. He cites the delimitation of Moroccan maritime borders and the recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara by the United States, not to mention that the kingdom can now use American weapons throughout its territory.
Furthermore, Mustapha El Khalfi assures that the recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara by the United States will not change, due to the clauses of the tripartite agreement signed with Israel. The PJD calls on Morocco to remain vigilant, as the US administration is receiving pressure that could divert it from its commitments to the kingdom.
