Moroccan Mother Arrested for Renting Baby to Beggar in Alleged Human Trafficking Scheme

Two individuals, a young woman and a young man, were arrested on Saturday and brought before the general prosecutor’s office in Rabat, for their alleged involvement in a case of human trafficking, kidnapping a baby for begging purposes, and endangering the life of others.
The young mother is facing multiple charges. She reported the kidnapping of her child near Bab Had Square in Rabat, and 48 hours later, the kidnapper was located and apprehended by the judicial police services.
However, the police uncovered a rather fanciful affair. According to the suspect’s statements, the young woman was renting her son to him to be used for begging purposes. That day, following a dispute, the 25-year-old individual had refused to return the child.
A judicial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, in order to determine the exact circumstances of this case. The two accused were brought before the Prosecutor on Saturday.
