Moroccan Minister Tops Forbes List as Nation’s Wealthiest Billionaire

The head of the Akwa group is ranked 1138th in the world with a fortune estimated at some $2 billion, up $500 million from the 2017 ranking where he was ranked 1,376th in the world, but down from last year ($2.2 billion). The businessman is present in various fields, including oil, gas and chemicals activities. His wife, Salwa Idrissi Akhannouch, is the head of, among other things, the largest shopping center in Africa, the Morocco Mall in Casablanca, and has just launched into cosmetics. Othmane Benjelloun lost his position as the richest Moroccan last year to Akhannouch. With $1.8 billion, he is now the second richest man in the kingdom.
