Moroccan Minister Tops Forbes List as Nation's Wealthiest Billionaire

As every year, the American magazine Forbes unveils its annual ranking of billionaires, in which two Moroccan billionaires are once again found, including the quasi-immovable Minister of Agriculture Aziz Akhannouch.

The head of the Akwa group is ranked 1138th in the world with a fortune estimated at some $2 billion, up $500 million from the 2017 ranking where he was ranked 1,376th in the world, but down from last year ($2.2 billion). The businessman is present in various fields, including oil, gas and chemicals activities. His wife, Salwa Idrissi Akhannouch, is the head of, among other things, the largest shopping center in Africa, the Morocco Mall in Casablanca, and has just launched into cosmetics. She is one of the richest women in Morocco.

Othmane Benjelloun lost his position as the richest Moroccan last year to Akhannouch. With $1.8 billion, he is now the second richest man in the kingdom. He heads the FinanceCom group, which is found in several fields ranging from telecommunications to banks (BMCE Bank Of Africa group) and has just launched the construction of the largest tower in Africa. Called the Mohammed VI Tower, it is located on the banks of the Bouregreg between Rabat and Salé and is scheduled for delivery in 2022. Investment amount: $500 million.

It should be noted that Anas Sefrioui, CEO of Addoha, has disappeared from this list of billionaires published by Forbes since last year. In 2017, his personal fortune was estimated at $1.3 billion. And since then, it has probably fallen below $1 billion.

At the global level, we take almost the same ones and start over. Amazon boss Jeff Bezos holds a fortune estimated at $131 billion, followed by Bill Gates $96.5 billion and Warren Buffett $82.5 billion.
