Moroccan Migrants Stranded in Algerian Detention Centers Plea for Repatriation

While they wanted to reach Libya, many Moroccan migrants find themselves stranded in detention centers in Algeria. Living in very difficult conditions, they are asking the Algerian authorities to grant their request for repatriation and to speed up the expulsion procedure to Morocco.

There are dozens of young men from different regions of the kingdom who have crossed the borders between Morocco and Algeria to reach Libya in the hope of reaching Europe. But their dream has faded. They were arrested at the borders and then taken to the detention center in Algeria. Since then, they have been living an ordeal. "Those blocked here are suffering in every sense of the word, especially with regard to nutrition, which is essentially a "broth" with stale bread. This makes the wait for deportation to Morocco more difficult," one of the detainees confided to Hespress. To this are added the problems of availability of drinking water and lack of hygiene.

The young Moroccans stranded in the detention centers in Algeria may shout their frustration, break the windows of the detention center, ask the Algerian authorities to grant their request and speed up the expulsion procedure to Morocco, but it will be to no avail. Their names are not on the lists of Moroccans who would soon be expelled from Algeria. Regarding the expulsion procedures, the same source specifies that Moroccan detainees who have spent a short period in administrative detention have been expelled within about a month, while 12 young people from Khouribga have been excluded for unknown reasons. Yet they had signed the expulsion documents several weeks ago.

"The consular services in the capital Algiers and the wilaya of Sidi Bel Abbès respond to the requests and questions of Moroccans detained on Algerian territory, but the administrative detention in which the young people from Khouribga find themselves falls under the Wilaya of Tiaret, under the consulate of Oran," explained the Moroccan detainee, insisting that the latter "lacks responsiveness" and does not respond to the requests of the Moroccans blocked there.
