Moroccan Migrant Blocks Consulate in Palma After Asylum Request Denied

One of the 23 Moroccans who arrived in Majorca on a patera plane in 2021 tried to take refuge last Friday at the Moroccan Consulate in Palma. After the officials told him that he could not receive any assistance, he chose to block the access and exits.
The events took place around 3:30 pm last Friday. One of the young people who traveled on what was described as a patera plane, on November 5, 2021, and had fled with about twenty illegal immigrants by running on the runways of Son Sant Joan after simulating a passenger’s illness, went to the Moroccan Consulate in Palma, reports diariodemallorca.
After receiving a negative response, the individual blocked the access to the building. A police patrol went to the scene before arresting the Moroccan for the offenses of coercion and resistance to authority.
The 22 other migrants who arrived on the patera plane had been in pre-trial detention since the end of 2021, and were released in January after the repeal of the crime of sedition in Spain.
In February, the Palma Provincial Court rejected the request of the National Police and the Prosecutor’s Office to expel them from Majorca without trial. The court refused that they be repatriated to Morocco, as requested by the Foreigners Brigade after their release.
