Moroccan Mason Dies in Spanish Construction Accident, Body to be Repatriated

The body of Abderrahim El Bouazati, the 35-year-old Moroccan mason, who died Tuesday after a fall from the fifth floor in the elevator shaft of a building under construction in Oviedo (Asturias), will be repatriated to Morocco.
Nicknamed "Ibra" by his co-workers, Abderrahim El Bouazati, originally from the city of Nador in Morocco, had lived for several years in La Corredoria, in the Asturias region and had Spanish nationality. He leaves behind a widow and two children (a boy and a girl), one of whom was already in Morocco for the summer vacation. The mason was planning to take time off to take the rest of the family to the kingdom, reports La Nueva España.
"He was a hard worker and a good person. I was with him on Monday. He was eager to take his vacation," said Bagdad Ouayed, a friend and compatriot of the deceased, still in shock. The autopsy performed on Wednesday made it possible to know the cause of death. Abderrahim suffered serious trauma after the fall into the elevator shaft.
The victim’s body was transported to Gijón for transfer and burial in Morocco. The investigation into his death is ongoing. The initial elements indicate that a board of the elevator shaft gave way from the fifth floor and the young man fell from this height. One of his colleagues claims to have pulled him alive from the stairwell and that he died shortly after.
