Moroccan Man Wanted in Italy for Over a Year Found Hiding in Tuscan Woods
Wanted by Italian justice for more than a year, a 44-year-old Moroccan man had found an unusual hiding place: a tent concealed in a Tuscan forest, equipped with car batteries, dishes and provisions. Police eventually discovered his camp.

Among the trees between Cecina and Riparbella, investigators discover a surprisingly well-organized setup. A tent blends into the vegetation. Nearby are several car batteries, cooking utensils and food supplies. This shelter, set up far from homes, served as a hideout for a man wanted since September 2025.
It all began in Vada, on the Tuscan coast. Police arrested the 44-year-old Moroccan man on suspicion of drug trafficking.

While awaiting a hearing before a judge, the man was placed under house arrest. He fled before his court appearance and disappeared. The Livorno court then issued a detention warrant.
A false identity fails to fool police
For more than a year, investigators searched for him. Recent information led them to monitor a wooded area on the border between the provinces of Pisa and Livorno. Surveillance and observation eventually enabled them to locate the tent.
In late October, police moved in at dawn. The man was caught in his makeshift shelter. According to Il Tirreno, he then tried to give police a false identity.
The ruse did not work. Taken to the forensic police unit, he was photographed and fingerprinted. Checks confirmed his identity and ended his flight.

The man in his forties was jailed under the court warrant related to the drug case. He also faces a new report for making a false statement about his identity.
After more than a year evading the police search, it was ultimately a tent and a few pieces of camping equipment hidden among the trees that led police to him.
